magimix vs kenwood chef

Hi. I'm thinking of buying either a magimix or kenwood chef for the kitchen. This will be mostly for baking but i would like the food processor capabilities aswell. Is the magimix any good for cake making or would i be better off getting the kenwood chef which is designed for baking? Has anyone bought either of these machines. How have you got on with them? Cheers, Chrissy.

We've had the Kenwood Chef for over 10 years. It's the best. My parents had a previous model for over 40 years. I think this argument will go on national lines - the English and Australians seem to prefer the Kenwood, with Americans preferring the Magimix - of course there will be exceptions to this! I think it's mainly to do with availability of parts, attachments etc.

The Magimix is almost unknown in the US, where KitchenAid dominates, with Kenwood a distant second.

Yeah, but KitchenAid is, in my experience, not nearly so well made as it was when Hobart owned the company.

Where in the US can the Kenwood Chef be seen/bought?

Anyplace, for example, in New Mexico?

Also what about on-line sources (in the US, of course -- trans- Atlantic shipping on such a gadget is apt to be pricey...).

...which has nothing at all to do with a discussion of market dominance.

As I recall, the original post was a request for advice about which of two mixers (see Subject: line) to buy, not which mixer dominates the US market. Someone else then mentioned KitchenAid's US predominance. Perhaps if y'all are going to change the point of the thread, it would be well to also change the Subject: line.
