Oh and Basan is an Arab origin name so I guess that might be part of his issue!

Except that it is not an appropriately named news group. Rec refers to recreation. These groups are not geared to commercial users. Commercial messages are considered spam in these groups.

Though I have seen many offers of sales and services in other REC. groups. like in rec.models.scale

and I'm sure since I did get a few orders from this group that their are professionals posting and lurking in here .. Hell what's easier to buy kosher ready to bake foods for your store / home/ school / etc or to make them yourself??

We've come perilously close to invoking Godwin's Law(q.v.) here...

On the other hand, unles you grind your own grain - on a stone, at that - you need some commercial sources, as do all of us!

Weren't you ever told as a kid "would you follow your friends if they jumped off a bridge?"? Just because others violate netiquette doesn't excuse your own act.

That's why spam is so popular--despite annoying 9,997 out of 10,000 people, it's a cheap and easy way to get those 3 sales. I just wish those three people would learn not to encourage the practice. The spammer attitude is a selfish one--"I can do whatever I want without regard to courtesy if I benefit from it."

If it's OK for you to do it, why not others? Why, then, shouldn't thousands of businesses deluge rec.food.baking with their advertising? Kraft alone could post ads for dozens of brands. You're no more entitled than they are.

Not relevant to the question of unsolicited commercial posts. Besides which, this group is about baking, not about purchasing baked goods.

Great, now we'll know whom to blame, when Kraft start deluging us!

from the FAQ: "Announcement of professional products or services on Usenet is allowed, provided suitable restraint is exercised."

and as per it's explanations of posting to any group I'm not creating spam in any way shape or form. reasons

  1. posted to an appropriate group FOOD, BAKING.
  2. only posted in one group so no screams about cross postings
  3. no where did it say that a posting offering to sell or service something was not allowed in an rec. group.

but since there is so much love in this group I'll just stick around and see what happens.

I can selectively quote, too. Here's the rest of that paragraph: "Since someone else is paying the phone bills for this, it is important that it be of overall benefit to Usenet. One of the few groups where such information is appropriate is comp.newprod. comp.newprod is a moderated group; you can get the submission guidelines from the article "Welcome to comp.newprod", posted periodically to comp.newprod and news.answers." and "There exists an alternative hierarchy called "biz" specifically for commercial postings."

A group about how to bake, not about selling baked goods.

No one did. But not cross-posting is not itself a "Get Out of Jail Free" card.

Because the very definition of what a "rec." group is is more basic than that--the FAQ tells you to find out what the groups are for.
