A Couple of Reviews

For my birthday last month, I received two beady things:

Beading Bead-a-Day Calendar and Bead Crochet Snakes by Adele Rogers Recklies

I've never tried Bead Crochet, but I was really interested in this book and the history of the beaded snakes. I'd tried to find some information about beaded snakes, and could find very little on the internet, so I was really excited to get this book and learn more about them. Also, the photos are great! I can't comment on the instructions, as they are over my head, but I hope to learn bead crochet one day and give one of these a try. Even if I never get around to learning how to bead crochet, I'm really glad to have this book in my bead library.

The Bead-a-Day calendar was a big disappointment. I got one of these last year and really enjoyed it all year. I didn't think this (2008) calendar was near as good. A lot of projects just aren't very appealing, and some of the ones that I might be interested have terrible pictures of the finished pieces, although the close-up photos of the step-by-step instructions look better. Me personally, seeing a crummy photo of a finished piece just doesn't get me excited about trying it. I feel like the photo of the finished piece should make me say, "Wow, I want to try that!" and not, "Gee, I might like that if I could see it better."
