Anchoring a beaded handle

Hi there!

Can anyone give me some advice as to the best way to anchor a beaded handle? I'm making a trinket box and would like to attach beaded handles to both sides however I'm having a little trouble making a strong anchor on the inside of the box. I've been told to use a "flat bead" and while I like the idea of having a decorative bead as an anchor, I want to make sure the wire doesn't show. Any advice???

Thanks so much!

I generally weave the ends of the handle ring into the bag, even to the point of having the soft-touch go all the way to the bottom of the bag.

If there is even the slightest chance that the necklace that the necklace is so long that it will catch on things, make sure that there is a break-away fail safe built into your strap. I usually do that by attaching the neck strap with jump rings, which will open and disconnect under strain. You could do that, hiding the jump rings with a design element. Or you could out a clasp and jump rings in the middle of the strap, it's up to you.

If you want to end the strap at the top of the bag, and don't want anyone to see the jump rings, you could use a decorative cone to hide those jump rings.

The reason I'm so careful about making my very long pieces have a break-away feature is that I'd much rather have to repair a necklace or amulet bag than have the worry that someone hurt themselves if the piece caught in a piece of machinery. Some of my bags have very long straps (they're used as purses -- these are much larger than your basic amulet) and since they're strung on wire, they could decapitate the wearer if they caught in something.
