OK, it doesn't involve beads, but rather glassblowing. Donna Leon's "Through a Glass Darkly" is set in and around Venice and Murano where detective Commissario Guido Brunetti investigates intrigue among the glassmakers. Maybe you will enjoy it as much as I did.
