Carlisle torch? (any lampworkers around?)

Hi all,

today I found a Carlisle 4050 on the local Craigslist. While it's definitely a good deal as compared to buying a new one,

- would you recommend it

- how much oxygen concentrator(s) does it require? Or do you have to have a tank for that (I'd prefer not to have an oxygen tank - and we do have propane tanks)

And then of course will come the questions about what else I'll need, but I'm not saying that I'm going to buy it all at once, like a kiln, and whatever else.

And here's a really stupid question: can you use used welding rods for mandrels?

- I should have reasonably good access to those, which is why I'm asking. -

Kalera, if you read this: you knew this was going to happen, don't you?

You can use welding rods for mandrels. Sorry, but I can't answer the other questions since I do fused glass, not lampwork. I think if you register at the ISGB (International Society of Glass Beadmakers) at

you can post the other questions under "safety forum" and someone will answer you. I believe that area of the website is open to non-members. You could also post it on the Technical Forum of the Glass Art forum on WetCanvas.
