consignment question(s)

Hi again, all,

As those of you who have been here a few years may know, I have been burned by consignment before. I've stayed away from it since, but I'm somewhat tempted to give it another shot. A lady I know (because she used to work at a shop I go to) has a stand at the Farmer's Market in Hilo now. This is a much larger market than the one I used to go to (and may at some point again, but not right now). She does consignment asking 20% (which to me is almost incredibly low). I don't sell on Ebay or Etsy where the overheads would probably be lower (or not?) as money is concerned, but probably not as time is concerned, and time is a major concern to me again.

I have a bunch of jewelry that I have been carrying around for a while, and that I'd in some cases, quite frankly, would just like to shed because I have moved on (not the Job's Tears, but the cheap class beads). Having had a look at what she says does sell and what she says doesn't, I think I'd have a chance at actually getting a few things sold. Another issue to me here now is to get as many exposures, especially local ones, to my website as I can get - putting a business card in gets the URL out there too.

Any opinions?

Thanks, Maren HiloBeads: Beads - Findings - Hand-made Jewelry

Hm. People don't do contracts here unless you go to expenses like buying a house. We've bought and sold used cars with a hand shake. We had our water mains replaced, permit and all, our electric service and breaker panel upgraded, also with permit and all, and never written or signed a contract. I'm in a small town where neighbors talk to each other and watch out for one another (well, most do), you're on friendly terms with the supermarket check-out people, give your notary public a hug when you see her at the mall.

- Whatever other people think, there is still Aloha here. -

I was thinking of starting small, with a few small items, like maybe a dozen eyelash scrunchies and a few pairs of earrings and take it from there.

Thanks Bart. She'd like me to drop things off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon, but suggested we can also meet n town somewhere some time (obviously, she won't want to carry a large volume of things around with her). As I tend to sleep in on Saturdays I told her the latter would work better for me ...
