I'm crimped

Hello, fellow-beading people: Is there logic behind shopping for crimps -- regular crimp beads, nothing special -- and finding an avalanche of crimp bead covers and very few crimp beads? I mean, the whole idea of buying a crimp bead cover, is to have a crimp bead to cover. Maybe there's something i'm missing, which would be good because i need crimps.

thank you very much.

Shawn -- I only know of two kinds of crimp beads. Good ones, and bad ones. LOL. The bad ones cut through what they are crimping (in my case, twisted wire bead cord) the good ones don't do it as often.

Good ones are: solid sterling silver and gold filled, for me. The cheap ones are useless.

As to your actual question, a crimp bead is a smooth small tube that is squished out of shape to do it's job. How many styles did you expect to find? LOL

hi, Becki. I'm talkin' 'bout crimp covers. There are too many crimp covers and not enough crimps. I'm using 3x3mm crimp tubes and they're okay, i should be happy with it. I'm just toasted that i can't find what i wanted but, yet, i'm choking on what i don't want -- the covers.

Hey Shawn,

I hear ya and I know what your saying about not being able to find what your looking for... been there and done that to many times.

I'm not sure what type metal you are looking for, but there are still a few places where you can still find crimp beads:

kinda pricy if you ask me

much better price and you can narrow your search by using the "refine your search" links near the top of the page.

||Tube%20Beads#ProductTop prices not bad and thats just to name a few.

If you do a Google search on "crimp beads" you get even more results.

Good luck with your search

actually, I've seen serrated crimp beads. (but crimping scares me - one of the reasons I use so few clasps - me being me, I'd expect the crimps to not hold.)

It took me ages to learn to crimp properly, I was sure that if the crimp wasn't mashed into oblivion it wouldn't hold but I was given some great advice about it. Use a crimp tube, make sure to get the wires in the right place so when it folds in the middle you have one wire in each of the little 'tubes' it creates and when you do the final crimping, use the same sort of firm but not overstrong pressure that would equal a handshake. Not an arm-wrestling, guys-testing-each- other handshake or that floppy weak-as-dishwater handshake but the kind that makes you think that's-a-decent-person handshake.

My crimps hold longer than the wire does. I've not had one fail since I got the hang of it.

Hope this helps.

TO ALL -- THANKS! Sterling, thanks for the searches. They brought up some stuff i haven't seen. Boy, i bet you nice people are getting pretty sick of me. I excel at being annoying. It's true. You're all correct. I think the problem is that i'm looking for a copper, 3mm crimp bead, something that appears to not exist. eh. That's okay. I like my tubes. I found shiny copper, 3x3mm that i can antique, and I'm good with that.

Thanks for being so nice!

Sorry. If you excelled at being annoying, that would make you ME. LOL.

Serrated crimp beads suck.

Love the word "toasted"

Thank you, Su! Hope you'll be back more often (and I was absolutely thrilled be the news you posted about Mike in the other thread, re-creating historic beads. Sooo cool.)

Maybe I'll try that when I get home - no, wait, I still have web pages to edit. I'll let you guys (female as well as male) know how it goes.

Dang, I still have thumbnails to generate before this lunch break is over (it's faster at work).

Hi Su,

Thanks for this gerat advise. I allways used my power (and it is getting less as I have arthosis*) and even blamed my plyers. Now I can use them as they were meant to be used and even get a more beaudiful result. I tried it, it works.!

Well if we get to meet again I will give you a big hug and 3 kisses instead of a handshake. When in Holland do as the natives do. LOL Hugs Shirley
