Letting Go or Giving In--Lampworkers' Thoughts, Please?

and music playing whilst I work on it.<

Yanno, I used to title my auctions according to the music I had going (either internal or external) but it got confusing because sometimes the bead had no resemblance whatsoever to the music. Just mutant associations on my part.

lyrics is positively frightening! (At least, to people around me... hehheh.) <

Speaking of triggers, you just reminded me of something funny that happened yesterday. Took my son to the orthodontist (he accidentally threw away his retainer on vacation last week), and we had to go to their other office instead of the one nearby. I pulled up in the parking lot and looked at the directory. In big bold letters was a sign stating "Leslie Fish, M.D." And I'm thinking, WOW, does she filk for her patients?????

with. It's hard to explain, but I am sure other lampworkers and artists of different mediums can understand what I mean. I can't make beads without music.<

Oh yeah! When I was in my basement back east, I had a boom box and a huge stack of "beadmaking" CD's. Eventually almost everything migrated downstairs. LOL

Now, since I'm on my balcony, Mike has kindly rigged up a 2nd pair of speakers from my computer to play outside. I have special playlists, or else I'll let my mood pick a lineup that fits. Now I'm doing it for silver work too. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm looney, because some of my mixes are....eclectic.

I've noticed that I pick lighter stuff for Moretti and dark stuff for boro. I'm not sure why, though. My last boro session soundtrack included Lords of Acid, Peter Murphy, Dead Can Dance and Sisters of Mercy. Funny thing is, the beads aren't "goth" in any way, shape or form. OTOH, I put swing on, like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and all my beads look bright and retro-ish. Maybe I DO need counseling.

The Goldberg Variations, by J.S. Bach, played by Glenn Gould. It was the version that he recorded in 1982 (he also did a recording of them in the '50's, but I prefer the '82 version).

the sake of a bit of time with my hardworking dear one, who gets up a bit after 5 for her 'day job', and often isn't done with her second career (seeing clients at home) until 8:30 at night. <

Heheheh, it's happened to you too, huh? I used to stay up til the wee hours, back east, chatting online with my guy and scanning auctions in silence after the kids were put to bed. Time zone difference will do that. Of course, I was already a nightowl so that was fine. I'd get up, get the kids to school, and go back to sleep for a few hours afterwards.

Now I get up early with Himself (5 or 6, depending on the day), but can't seem to go back to sleep. So, I post here at the ungodly hour of 6:30 (7 now, I'm talky this morning). Lately I've been grumbling about the flip-flopping schedule (which was just "improved" by his lab partner to include 3 different time slots). His brilliant idea is to get up early every day, but then we'll have the luxury of ignoring the alarm and snuggling on alternate days. He's good that way.

I've often wondered if the two are related somehow. I know that some people who have Asperger's also have ADD. My head doctor says that there are studies linking Asperger's with bi-polar disorder. He said that many people who have Asperger's are also bi-polar, although it's not always the case.

I cannot recall a moment in my life when the music in my head went away. It seems that when I consciously go to listen for it, there's always something playing :)

Maybe this is why I don't actually listen to CDs that often anymore-- don't need to!

That's because you're the Star of your life! It happens to be a musical.

Heehee, my ex-husband has accused me of being bi-polar, but I don't think that counts. ;-)

Hi Kandice! Good post! You've brought up several interesting points (as your posts so often do!) Such as......

:-) yep, much like the *should one sell 'seconds' lampwork beads?'* debate. Some 'questions/discussions' re selling artist lampwork just never run out of steam! :-)

:) Oh, yes, definitely insanity inducing! And it's a constant challenge to be able to mesh the artistic creativity with the business side of things.

Cool! How did you know I love Bach? That makes them even more special to me.

DD definitely needs to meet my partner's daughter -- their tastes are completely similar! We *all* like "1776" and the Buffy musical around here.

Funny story... a few years ago, I was sitting in the consuite at Rivercon when a political discussion somehow segued into someone declaiming Adams' opening monologue from "1776". He hit the end -- and from around the room, a ragged chorus of "Sit down, John"! sprang up! Where else but at a con...?
