OT: Forgiving/Letting Go and junk

In my yoga/pilates/meditation class today we did the nicest visualization:

We pictured sitting next to a nicely running stream of water, somewhere in nature.

We see three leaves on the ground, and pick them up. One is vivid red, one is bright orange and one is sparkling gold.

As we contemplate the red one, a word or phrase representing our most intense current challenge or problem appears. Slowly, we consider the word/phrase, then we drop the leaf into the water, and watch it eddy about, then float down and away.

The orange leaf develops with a word or phrase representing our greatest fear. That one too, after contemplation, drops to the water, and floats away on the surface.

Then, the bright gold leaf develops the word or phrase or image of the greatest wrong ever done to you, and..(you guessed it, you smart things!), it too goes the way of the first two.

Then we are to visualize the wonderful life left to us, having released those three things to the cleansing and distancing of those moving waters.

The instructor did a mch better job of verbalizing the whole thing, but it was VERY interesting, vivid and somehow comforting/motivating!

Just thought I'd share.

I caught the last post in a thread about forgiving and forgetting. I was a victim of child molestation - I can't forgive and unfortunately I can't forget. If brain-washing were an option I'd consider it. Memories come to mind unbidden at the damnedest times.

The man who did this (my father) is now dead. He was charged multiple times for other children (I never told) abiut only convicted once. He got a slap on the hand. He never apologized to me, and as a matter of fact he tried convincing *ME* that these charges were unfounded. Hello? Are you seeing who you're talking to??

I'm not who believes in forgiving for some things. I can only hope that he's getting the ultimate justice at this point. And if he is forgiven but the ultimate judge - let me be condemned to Hell.

I'm sorry to have let loose but this is a very sore subject with me.

Better to let loose in the light amongst those who have been there. You have nothing to be sorry for IMO.

Never feel badly for having expressed your side of how you feel and see your own life situations! I don't recommend that anybody forgive or forget, but to me, that's totally different and apart from "letting go". If we don't/can't/won't learn to let go of hurts and fears, we are captive to them. Once we "let go", we can begin to heal. To hell with the tormentors, but I for one wouldn't let anybody victimize me at my OWN hand.

I'm so sorry for your experience...I often wish I had a magic wand and could take away the pain others feel...

Thank you. I can't even talk to my husband about this so it kind of felt good to admit it to someone other than myself.

No need to be sorry. I'm glad you could dump some of that here. You are safe.

I hope so too. I hope one day you get counseling for this. It's too infuriating to think that his sickness is still poisoning you.

I wish the reasons for the pain had not existed in their lives. I often wonder who each of us would have been had we not had this pain to deal with. Would we be the same basic person? Would we have the same urges to create beauty, to offer ourselves in bead/jewelry/quilt form to the world? Would we interpet the world the same way? I in no way mean to say that pain is a good thing, or that creativity needs to be born of cruelty or painful childhood experiences. I only wonder the what ifs that pop into my head about myself and those I know. Diana

And loved. There are some incredibly protective and loving people here. If you let it happen, you'll feel the healing and protective vibes from all the RCB-er's, whether they're regular posters or not.

Don't ever worry about letting loose with strong feelings. We're very strong women, we can take it. Even the heaviest burden can be lightened by many hands. Got two hands here, and am more than willing to help with my share.

Ibid, for the same thing, only my uncle. I have no doubt, however, that God will deal with him fairly. He has had a sad, miserable life on this earth. Becki "In between the moon and you, the angels have a better view of the crumbling difference between wrong and right." -- Counting Crows

I always laugh so much at those things, because I am so not like what all the horoscopes say. I'm so terrible at that stuff anyway, because I pay so little attention to it. Last week Manda and I were at the craft store, and as usual, our first stop was picking out a pair of funky socks. (At $1.00/pair, it's not a huge splurge)

This week's selection had horoscope symbols on them. I picked Libra, because that's my symbol, but I had no idea what Manda's symbol might be. I was soon informed that my daughter is a Saggitarius, and she showed me the proper symbol. Do I have even the least clue as to what qualities are inherent in Saggitarians? Absolutely not.

Without the pain I would never have developed the compassion that I have today. Life seeks balance.
