Why thank you all. I had a lovely day, but we're saving the real celebration for next Monday. Bob and I will be taking my first vacation in three years! We're going to Las Vegas! Whoo-hoo!

If I sound excited, it's because the thought of getting out of the house to go anywhere that doesn't involve a hospital is like a dream come true. My docs have given Las Vegas a blessing like no place else except Disney World, because of the availability of trained emergency employees, who can summon qualified medical personnel in a heartbeat. Having oxygen and other medical equipment rented and delivered to the hotel was simple: one call to the concierge and it was all taken care of.

In addition, the cost of going to Las Vegas was darned cheap compared to many other places, shockingly so to my "I live in New England and Everything's Expesive" mind.We're staying at the Luxor, because it was the only faux place I could deal with: Faux Venice, Paris and New York all sounded pretty lame when I've been to the real places. (and believe me, the real Venice, Paris or New York do not emphasize the wonderfulness of gamblng)

I did some research and there is plenty for a non-gambler to do, and I definitely fall into that category. Bob likes to gamble, but I'm sure he's going to be shocked into respectful observation when he sees the people betting more than the value of our home. (We are definitely low-stakes kinds of people)

I'm excited about the people watching and going for a day at a spa, which is my special birthday present from Bob. I want the works because I really want to be pretty again, even if it's only for a day. (Bob, sweetie that he is, says that I'm pretty all the time, but we both know better) I even bought a bathing suit, because the hotel has a pool I can use!

We're still up in the air about renewing our wedding vows. Part of me knows that we do that for real, every single day. Part of me wants to get married by Elvis and pay in chips. ;-) We can decide when we get there. Just like the shows: I want to see a couple of magic shows, because I love magic. (I try to figure out how they did it, and about 90% of the time, I can do it) Bob wants to see a boobie show, although he can see plenty of boobage at home for free. We will probably compromise and see both.

One compromise we'll see a lot of is buffets. Bob adores them, and I, well, don't. But you can't go to the city of buffets and not try out one or twelve. So, I've promised that I'll visit buffets witout complaint if we have 2 for 1 coupons and if the place has fruit or fresh veggies for me. I'll let you all know how all that works out.

So, now you've heard my big news. I'll post a trip report when we get home. I'm especially anxious to see how all these airlines and resorts handle wheelchairs, considering I told them about it eight zillion times. I know that I cannot transport oxygen, but the hotel says having it delivered is a no-brainer, and I called a couple of suppliers in Las Vegas and that appears to be the case. Still, I'll be a lot more comfortable once I know that everything is in place.

Oh yeah - the beading: I have a beautiful project that was supposed to go to Kalera last week, but someone in my home, someone about

5'5", with long blonde hair and boys beating down my front door used this project for a dance. Now the project is awaiting repairs, and the blonde daughter is awaiting a butt kicking session.

I'm also making a little beaded slot machine ala' Suzanne Cooper's design. It's not exact, of course, but it's coming out very well and rather fun.

Once again, thank you all for remembering, and I'll write a detailed trip report when I get back.

Elvis! Elvis. I'd get re-married by Elvis any day!

Have a blast!

Las Vegas is wonderful! OK, other than that whole overconsumptive-city-in-a-desert thing. :) But I loved it anyway, all the bright lights and pretty colors and spas and shows and restaurants... unbelievably cheap restaurants with excellent food! You won't mind the buffets at all, is my guess... they are not like "normal" buffets. The ones I went to had food that was more like regular restaurant food, not like the vaguely institutional "buffet food" that is typical of buffets, in my area at least.

-snip-

Eeeeeeeeeee!

I hope you post pics of this one.

Kathy, Kathy -- no matter how you feel about faux places, GO TO THE VENETIAN and look around inside. It's gorgeous. Be sure to visit the Bellagio and see the Chihuly sculptures, and the butterfly house. (There are always tons of weddings taking place there) Those are two

*gorgeous* places. I was so glad I saw them!! (I've been to the real Venice too...)

I saw Elvis when I was last in Vegas -- wearing the gold lame sports jacket (and shades, baby)! A classic. Apparently he's not a terribly common sight. I was a newbie and didn't realize I'd seen somethin' special. (I didn't see him leave the building, though)

~~~~~~~~~~~ To correct myself -- it's jaw-dropping. The mosaics are so huge and so unbelievably beautiful you will fall over looking at them. (Get Bob to hold your back so you don't.)
And oh, MAN ---- try to get into a Cirque de Soleil show. OH MY GAWD. There are several in town. Best thing we did there!
