OT: I'm ready for warmth

Two days ago it hit 47 below. Then it warmed up to around 25 below, day before yesterday. But today it stayed around 30 below, and tonight it's supposed to get to 50 below, and for the next 2 nights.

The weather guessers say it should get up to 15 below during the day, so we're going to try to get into town to do banking, post office and LAUNDRY. Got to do laundry so I can pack. We live on an Ice Lens. That's permanently frozen pure ice, as opposed to Frozen Muck and other variations of Perma-frost. So there are no water pipes that serve homes here. I have just a holding tank here, and pay .08 per gallon for water (the average home uses about 2,000 gal per person -- we DON'T spend $160 per person on water, we conserve). And we do our laundry in town at the laundromat.

Fortunately, la Nina conditions are making it cooler than usual in Mexico, though it will also be stormy. I'd love to go looking for silver, but dental work is my priority. At 10% of what it costs here, the savings in dental work will more than pay for the trip. Though it's still money out of pocket. And this is going to be an expensive year with my daughter getting married.

I leave for Mexico, a small fishing village with no frills but plenty of warmth and sun, Feb 13. Then Feb 22 I leave for Calif, my granddaughter's

7th birthday, a visit to my 84 year old mother and to meet my future son-in-law, before I return to Alaska Mar 6. And I also hope to meet with Becki and Sooz too.

But for now, even with the fire blazing, my feet are cold.

Like what I'm telling people "I'm too old to be embarrassed"?

Weather-wise, well, I'm in the tropics. It's the first day in weeks that it's gotten much past 70 though. It's 77 today, and something that I consider 'not cold'. Better yet, it stopped raining continuously. We must have gotten 30" rain this month already.

Same here. My "too old to be embarrassed" goes beyond that. I try to keep some exercise going (doing yard work and such, but with all the rain that doesn't work too well), and with all the other stuff that's going on my sink hasn't gotten empty in weeks, my truck accumulated about 200 lb of wet stuff in it (it's now empty, as it finally didn't rain for most of a day), there's more stuff (accumulated paper) on the coffee table than I find funny, I still haven't filed the FAFSA, only this weekend finally started drilling the Royal Poinciana seeds after getting some moly lube for the flex shaft and then not still having used it (but DH showed my how to connect it). A friend of ours needs a stove transported, that's why I had to clean out the truck, but as the problem with her old one was the electronics I didn't exactly feel like transporting the new one yet (and now she's mad at us). And I meant to take pictures of the bracelet I made with the double drilled Royal Poinciana seeds, and my coffee and macadamia nut seedlings to post on craiglist, and there's always more stuff do do than there is time for ...

(and BTW, DD started complaining about there always being more stuff do to than there's time for when she was 17, so it's not only to to with age, but I do think it gets worse with age)
