OT - scam warning

Sorry if this is a duplicate post, but my original did not go through.

I just recieved an email supposedly from Earthlink that said that due to a system flush, they'd lost all of our billing info, and that we should follow the link and update our info. If you receive this email DO NOT do this! They are scamming you. We have reported it to Earthlink who has said they did NOT send this email out, but it's someone who has done a very good job of replicating parts of their website. Just a word to the wise.

Yep - there are also versions of the same thing going around for eBay, Microsoft, PayPal and other large online companies. When in doubt, login to the company's web page without going through the email and change your password and such. Don't ever go through the email links. Companies that big do not ask for information through the email.

This spam inspector (cheap, with a free trial period) has two remarkable things on it - you can "bounce" the email back to the sender, which is the same as receiving your mail back with the "undeliverable" sticker on it, and second, it has a report feature that sends a complaint and the source code back to the server it came from and also to a spam abuse reporting place. Plus the filtering out of all sorts of crap that just goes in your deleted file. I still can't figure out why I get the amount of spam I get, but sometimes I'll have as many as 20 at a time that the program intercepts.
