OT: soup

and the real reason why I sat down in front of this computer was to check (brain-fade) what else than carrots I have to buy for the soup (nothing). I finally remembered (too much else going on, we had some rather major problem at the telescope last night too - major because we have absolutely no clue what causes it, and it's only happened 2 or 3 times since we have that instrument (about 16 years))

This is what I call "Hunter's Stew"... you hunt around the kitchen and thrown in anything that looks interesting - lots of veggies, leftover meat, maybe rice.

I usually use barley instead of rice. I don't like how rice turns out the second and third day. I usually make rather large amounts of soup, in this particular case because I had all the bones of a whole turkey. To me making soup usually takes 2 days because I put the broth in the fridge overnight, then you can just take the solid layer of fat off the next day.

If I have to hunt around the kitchen it usually ends up being quiche or stir fry.
