OT: The Mama Bear emerges from her cave to find..

.that there is no school tomorrow!

Here in the Boston area, we're experiencing record breaking cold. I know that "record breaking" gets overusd a lot, but in this case it fits. The

-15F low temperature that is expected tonight is the coldest it's been here since 1920. To put it in perspective for DD: "I've never seen such a cold day, nor has Daddy, or Omi, or Grandpa. The last time it was this cold in Boston, your great grandparents were little kids." (The fact that the great-grandparents were in Germany is beside the fact)

It's been "warming up" to such balmy temparutres of -2F, and it's darned windy. The poor kids and teachers at DD's school are wearing several pairs of pants, three or more sweaters, and winter jackets in the classroom. DD's school, has the original 1927 heating system, which is held together by chewing gum and twine. The town has it on a list to be torn down and replaced, so there's no way they'll replace the furnace.

Some of you are shreiking in horror that anyone would live in such a god-forsaken tundra, with winds and snow and the like. We call you guys "Californians." Then there's Tina and the folks from the really cold climates, who are smirking that we are so unable to cope with a "fresh spring day."

For me, the major side effect is that I am unbelieveably sleepy. It's probably the lingering effects of the flu, but I am so incredibly tired that mostly I've been sleeping around the clock, and just getting up for short stints to get a drink. When I just got up, DD was dancing in the living room, because most of the schools in the state have cancelled school tomorrow. Well, I'm going to get a bit of dinner and go back to sleep. Assuming that DD lets me - those baby cubs can be a real pain in the butt to your basic hibenating Mama bear.

I seem to remember #1 son being that way.... He got teeth early-- which is why he was weaned from breast feeding at 3 1/2 months (he drew blood twice). Took a couple of years to house-break him, too-- it was dangerous to let him run around nekkid before then.... Kaytee "Simplexities" on

She wants to take a road trip. We used to go on long drives or take last minute flights to wherever all the time when I was well. DD got _very_ accustomed to saying in hotels (on my frequent flyer miles, of course); and would beg for the special treat of room service. We traveled so often that we had our black carry-on bags packed at all times. DD was totally jealous when I had to get extra pages on my passport because it was full of visa stamps.

She hasn't come to terms with the idea that I can no longer drive, and asks me all the time if I'm well enough for us to take a road trip. Kills me to have to say no. DH and I always knew that I would end up this way "someday," but I hoped and prayed that DD would be grown up before it got this bad. Didn't quite work out that way.

But she'll be driving soon, and maybe we can resume some of the road trips. It'll just be someone else behind the wheel instead of me.
