OT - what happens to a little stream....

Wow - this is what happens to a small stream when we have the wettest day on record. I took a break from torching today to walk down and see our stream, which has been gushing really loudly today. These pics were taken about 50 feet from my back door - down the deck stairs. This stream is usually very small, and normally you can walk right up to it over a flat section of gravel. Not this time. This is by far the highest I have seen this stream - and it's practically a raging river now. And it's really loud, too!!

Pretty! But dangerous - too many people don't realize the power of moving water. Your little stream could easily knock a 250 pound man off his feet should he be so foolish to go wading!

Kandice, did you set the shutter speed differently or tweak the photo in Photoshop or something?

Oh, man! I meant to say - keep dry and safe and sorry if you're feeling uneasy and prayers incoming. Didn't mean to be insensitive, it's just that the water in those photos look like the "inspirational" posters they had in my old office. you could sell those pics. Really something to consider.

No - just made the image a bit smaller so it would load faster - why?

Ahhhh :) The photos are a bit blurry because it was foggy down there this afternoon and also because of the wind blowing around.

I want to see these pictures, but my damned internet keeps telling me it can't find the server. Are you having a problem with your server atm? Everyone else seems to have been able to see them and I wanna see too!!

Nice pics. I love the sound of running water - creeks, rivers, etc. But they can be scary when the water gets high. But my dream/goal is to have a place and land with a stream or river.

YES!!! Too true. I am also a whitewater kayaker and have had some courses in swiftwater rescue- it is amazing the power of water. And it doesn't care who you are.

If you are talking about the "smoothness" of the water- when it flows really fast pictures will turn out like that. Pretty cool eh?

That was my first thought when i saw these pix. This state never ceases to amaze me with its rugged beauty.

Where I grew up in Sierra Madre, CA, there is a wash (an open "drain" 10 Ft. across and 10 ft. high, made of concrete and rocks. Flat bottom, smooth sides). It runs from the dam at the head of the small canyon that was the original town. The water goes from the damn and and portion of it is diverted to the settling basins, where it is allowed to seep into the ground to raise the water table for the towns wells, which form the basis of the town's water supply. One fall we had terrible brush fires all around Glendale, Arcadia, Monrovia and SM. That winter we had 6 weeks of non-stop rain. It rained every day. The little stream that was frequently only a 4" wide trickle became a torrent that filled the wash side to side an within less than 2 feet of the top. Boulders weighing half a ton could be heard being rolled along by the water. The back of the damn had been filled with dirt, rocks and debris from the scorched mountains. Now a water fall was flowing over the top of the dam and trees with trunks 3 and 4 ft. in diameter were washing over the top. It was a truly incredible sight. Barbara Dream Master
