I'm a beader, I sell my jewelry to friends, coworkers, etc. I used to put my jewelry on cards, then in small plastic ziplock baggies. I always thought there should be something that looked more professional...more sharp. I have invented a portable display for jewelry makers. it's about the size of a photo album, has "pages" that you turn that display the jewelry beautifully. I'm not anywhere NEAR selling these right now, so I'm not trolling for sales....I just want to know if people similar to me think that this is something they could use. Also, what do YOU need in a portable display item?
I have a small photo album with pictures of my jewelry. I show it to people, they'll select several items they were interested in,. Then I bring the items to them so they can eye-ball them in person. I normally carry the jewelry in white jewelry boxes. I found that I get an "ahhh" factor that way. Think about how it feels when you open a present at Christmas time. You know.. the first glance in the box. I can bring 15 boxed necklaces and as each box is opened, they are focused completely on that one.. giving me the "ahhhh, it's so pretty" reaction.
I'd like to see what it is that you are talking about. Got any pictures of it? It sounds interesting but I don't know if I could use it since I don't have a clear idea of what it is...
I have 2 kinds of portable displays. One is when I go out of town and show/give/sell my work, as well as make things. Then I have several canvas ore sample bags that I carry stuff in. Although this year I will be sending them in flat rate boxes instead of putting them in my luggage.
(With the new regulations allowing fewer and lighter bags, I will be keeping the bulkiest things with me and sending heavy stuff. I have hot dry desert wedding, warm damp West Coast family, and probably coming home to snow in the three weeks. So anything metal/stone/glass/jewelry will go in Priority Flat Rate Boxes, as well as jam/fruitcake/food, etc -- for wedding, granddaughter, even Christmas.)
In town here, I'll bring in a dozen or two necklace, sets is a rather standard black leather jewelry portfolio. A zippered folder with snappable tabs top and bottom, and a padded spacer between the two sides. If I need more, I can either go home and get more, or I can put more in a zippered bag -- each in an ivory organza bag with identification of materials, including lampwork or PC artist, and price, which I can see well enough through at least for me to identify what I want to bring out to show.
I haven't done it yet, but I would also put a selection of lower priced zipper pulls, etc in a padded zippered bag. For a selection of earrings, I have put a whole bunch on a sheet of the plastic canvas used for stitching or rugs. I don't do many of these smaller items, so I don't have a real method for putting them on cards and displaying them.
