Hello....I never posted here before, but I do read them when I can. I have a question for Kandice.... I bought some of your lampwork beads on eBay and I was wondering if I could hang them like charms from a bracelet. I'm concerned that they might get damaged from wear if I do this.

Mine have hit the deck more times than I can count, and have even been stepped on, without any damage at all. (Not that I recommend stepping on them, but hey, stuff happens)

Thanks so much for your reply. I've had these beads for a while and I keep opening the box, drooling over them and not knowing what I want to make with them. Then I finally got this idea to use them as charms but I wasn't sure if I'd damage them. I'm excited to try this now and see if it comes out like the idea in my head.

her beads are WELL and PROPERLY annealed. a bracelet should not be a problem!

:) Sure, the best way to do this is to put them on thick head pins with beads to either side. If they're annealed properly, they shouldn't break. Of course, I am not the only lampworker here, so others may have their views. Welcome to the group!

I agree 100%! A properly annealed bead made with compatible glass is a shockingly durable item. I've only ever had one break, (my sister dropped a box full of them on a concrete floor) and my theory is that there was some glass incompatibility at play, because it had premade millefiore in it and those can be questionable. Under normal circumstances, it's almost impossible to accidentally break or chip lampwork... I flung one across the room at work once, to demonstrate, and it bounced across the concrete floor and came to rest unhurt. (it was ugly... wouldn't have been a loss even if it had broken.)
Funny that I just posted this yesterday, because as of today I've had three break... my oldest daughter managed to drop-kick my box of beads, and some delicate protuberances snapped off of two of my more favoritest beads. :(
I guess I'll use this as an opportunity to practice one of my "distinctive styles", eh?
I didn't tell my daughter about the breakage. She's 5 and gets emotional about stuff like that, so I kind of have to replace them. She'd notice; she likes to go through my beads.
