Re: OT: Air Show

Ooooh, wish I could be there... the Snowbirds are my favorite, saw them for the first time at the Reno Air Races in 1991... Grew up in Maryland with the Blue Angels... tend to see the Thunderbirds more often in the Midwest... but any of them are cool.

A couple of years ago, in October, I was going into work a little late and the Thunderbirds were practicing. Not being a fool, I pulled over, hopped out, and watched them for about twenty minutes. Just beautiful.

Finally, when they were done, opposing solo (#6, I think) came around north of me to join the pattern. He was at about 200 ft AGL, maybe an eighth of a mile away.

I waved, of course.

And he waved back, by rocking his wings!

Those are little jets. Big jets are 747s and B-52s, meaning that fighters are little. The nice thing about little jets is that you fly them all by yourself. No committee on the flight deck, just you and the airplane.

I'd love to have been a fighter jock, but I'm too short and too near-sighted. Still, I've ridden in fighters and it's a real thrill.
