Re: OT: Down for the Count

I sure wish you'd ask your friends "Do you think cleaning the bathroom would be a good idea?" before wrecking yourself... But, noooo...

I hope the damage is slight and only temporary.

Kathy, next time ask for help, please! In the meantime, rest up and feel better soon.

Isn't that what the cervical collar is for, to keep you from seeing stuff "down there" that might need cleaning? Now, do we need to call your doctor and ask for the B-I-G one so that you look like a radio dish? Sarajane

I have. I'm doing a lot of nothing, and have been all week.

Today, P/T D and one of her friends came over to "hang out with me." They were quite concerned that I was lonely without DD. Then they asked if they could clean my refrigerator.

They so wanted to be able to do something for me that I can't do, so I didn't have the heart to say no. I'm glad I let them -- they did a better job than I ever do, and the fridge is sparkling, and all the food arranged perfectly. And they were so proud of themselves afterward.

Afterward, I treated them to ice cream and made them laugh when I spilled strawberry sauce all down the front of my shirt. Can dress me up... You know the rest.

Yay! Next time the bathroom needs cleaning, remember this!

People actually love doing occasional needed services for people who have treated them well. It lifts their spirit and gives them a sense of showing their appreciation in practical, concrete ways. If you keep hold of this fact, maybe it will be easier to draft people to help, even with tasks you are reluctant to wish onto someone else.

**sigh** it looks like everyone else has beat me to it, but we'd really rather you did NOT do things like this!

rest well!

This is pretty much my attitude, too. Not pissed that you did it, but unhappy that you don't seem to keep as tight a grip on your awareness of your own needs as you do on the state of the bathroom.

I suspect that you have a lifetime average of "I can do it!" experiences outnumbering "Not at the moment..." experiences by a large factor.

I suspect you'll get back to "I Can Do It" faster by allowing yourself more "Not At The Moment"s for the next few weeks.

Are you willing to make a pact to do that? It isn't forever. Just for now.

I'm not asking you to give the doctors authority. What do they know about what is happening inside your body? Nothing concrete. Just theories and what is suggested by their tests.

I am asking you to trust and give authority to your body, and what it tells you about its current capabilities. That way you can gradually build up those capabilities without setting yourself back over and over again.

You're the expert. You just need to learn to listen to a part of yourself that really knows what is likely to help, and what will do further harm.
