The best class

I spent Tuesday and Wednesday taking a class from Andrea Guarino-Slemmons! One of the goddesses of the glass work - such a nice person, and talented beyond belief. Her hubbie came along too, and he's a gem. She's such a good teacher. I have taken 4 classes iin the past 4 years (3 of them with one of the "masters") and her class stands head and shoulders above everyone elses for me.

What made this even more special is that it was seeing Andrea's beads, in a store window in Pt. Townsend, WA, more than 10 years ago, that first got me interested in lampworking. So I owe her an immense debt of gratitude for inspiring me on this journey. It was really wonderful to be able to meet her and thank her.

That's awesome!

She is an amazing teacher and an amazing person. Absolutely one of my glass heroes! Whit is a doll, too... they're just great people.

I have to agree. I took my first intermediate class with her. I was just thinking yesterday that I want to take again, now that I know more. She is a great beadmaker, teacher and person.

Andrea has nice things to say about you too. We were doing some lapidary work and Andrea mentioned how nice your geode beads are.

Yes - it's rare to find all three - some really good beadmakers aren't good teachers, some good teachers aren't exceptional beadmakers, and sometiimes people start to act a bit diva-ish. Andrea is just so good at what she does, at teaching and at being fun to hang out with. This is the first time she's taught in Canada and everyone here feels so fortunate. It's been a fun few days. And she brought some of the Jim Moore tools she's been having him make for her - serious tool lust!

Andrea's amazing - someday I hope to take one of her classes. She's here in WA, and is a sweetheart. Sounds like you had a lot of fun!

I did have a great time - lots of my bead-making friends were in the class and Andrea's just delightful, as is her husband, who often comes along when she teaches. Highly, highly recommended!!! She's doing a 4 day class in Oct (?) in Pt. Townsend with M. Barley - 2 days with ea. That would be super cool. Wish I could afford the time and money to do that. Sometimes I do get tired of being a student.

Absolutely, and then some! Hands-down the best educational money I've ever spent, and that includes my (more or less wasted) time at college. I had the best best best time ever, learned so much from two really amazing fantastic people, and I stayed at the hostel there - they do have private rooms - which was inexpensive and very comfortable.

Kalera - Thanks for the recommendation Kalera. DH is back to work soon after a v. long medical leave, so our finances will be looking up and that trip might become quite possible. I know Andrea's class here was hands down my best class I've taken from anyone in the lampworking world.
