Rumor has it that if you nail an eagle to your barn door evil spirits will not approach. This is perfectly understandable. If I were approaching a barn door and I saw that some crazy loon had nailed an eagle to it ... I would also stay away. This is nothing less than conventional wisdom.

Then there is the old adage that states that if you hard boil an eagle's egg and then two people share it ... witches and evil spirits will also stay away. Not too sure of the theory behind this ... I suspect it might have to do with the effects of hard boiled eagles' eggs on the gastro-intestinal tract which may cause subsequent distress to those within the breathable vicinity.

There is a theory as regards eagles that Adam and Eve did not die ... but were turned into eagles who would live forever off the coast of Ireland. The logic here defies my understanding as I thought Ireland was created long long after the death of the famous duo. But what do I know. Boidie boidie in the sky ... why'd you do that in my eye? I'm sure glad elephants can't fly. This last is nothing more than a poetic little gift from me to you ... which--by the way--I may have give you before.

You want more? In bad weather the Welsh would often say: The eagles are breeding whirlwinds on Snowdon. The wonderful thing about myths is that they don't necessarily have to follow any normal forms of logic. Still ... if anyone understands this last little tidbit ... I wouldn't mind receiving an explanation. In fact I would welcome it.

I digress for an instant. I do hope you all know this is leading to a wonderful piece of jewelry. Yes?

Now then ... I know you all know that the eagle is the symbol of the United States. However ... believe it or not ... it is said that Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey (an American bird) to have this honor. Sheesh! Does this mean we'd have had eagles for dinner on Thanksgiving?

And now ... a little something for the druggies out there ... the adherents of mescaline and LSD and a other hallucinogens. Eat an eagle's brain while it is still warm (who would even want to do this?) ... and upon you will be bestowed the greatest and most fantastical illusions. Perhaps our founding fathers knew more than we thought when they created the eagle as our national symbol. Mmmm. These eagle brains are good. Let's put this bird on our money. It's all illusory anyway. All those in favor say aye. Ai yi yi. Looking at the way things are going these days I would suspect suspect fried eagle's brains are being served around the dinner tables throughout the government buildings in Washington.

So listen. I'm hungry. My wife is cooking something aerie for me. She said it would be trippingly good. Wonder what she meant? Gotta run. How many of you want to see a great looking eagle bangle? Gorgeous workmanship. 18 karat gold. Hinged. Head carved in sodalite. Diamond set eyes with cabochon citrines. Worth about 1600 Swiss Francs in

1989. Created circa 1950. Do not know the artist.

For those of you who are new to this thing called Tidbits...may I direct you to my home page at
