Today, Jan 15...

Did you know...

...that today is Choco-Mas Day? On this day, celebrate the food of the Gods, chocolate, by buying the BEST chocolate you can afford and savoring it on its own or with a friend. Remember -- it's better to have a tiny morsel of the really good stuff than to have a whole bar of the cheap stuff (truly).

Margie, just one note... it's quite possible that the orange you received will not be the same as what you'll buy in the states. IIRC someone sent you the orange from the UK, right? I haven't had the opportunity to try any, but I've heard tell that Cadbury's chocolate in England far outshines the Cadbury's sold here. I wouldn't be surprised if the same held true for other brands.

I hope that you find them, and that you are pleased with the treat, but want you to be forewarned of this possibility. Especially, I think you should try one before you buy out the whole shelf-full when you find them!!

Thank you for your sage wisdom. Maybe I'll make a batch of chocolate chip cookies in case I'm disappointed.

BTW, my aussie friends swear that their Cadbury is the best. LOL

Hi Alison, Your remark brought back a memory for me. Back in the 1950's when I married I went to live in Malta with my DH who was in the Royal Navy. I used to complain that the chocolate bought in Malta was different to the one I got in UK. It turned out to be that there was an added ingredient in it that stopped it melting quickly in the heat. If we tried to melt it for a cake topping it would go grainy. I had to get DH to bring me the proper stuff off his ship. Shirley

Ahhh, this must be why I have been baking chocolate chip cookies. Mmmmm... tasty bits of heaven, to stave off the effects of lower amounts of sunshine. Diana, chocoholic no matter what time of year

My best friend's husband is from Poland, and he says that most sweets from Europe are better than here in the States. He says it's because of the regulations on what kind of sugar they use, or something like that.

DH spent a few weeks in New Zealand a couple years ago, and he noticed that soda (he doesn't eat candy, but is a Dr. Pepper FANATIC ;o) is different there-they use actual sugar there, whereas we use corn syrup. I got some candy from Australia (candy bar with cherry flavored center--would *love* to find more of THOSE!), and it also tasted better.

Cherry Ripes! That's what those Aussie candy bars were called....

< Not to tease anyone or promote alcohol consumtion in anyway, but Canada used to have a chocolate candy that had Harvey's Bristol Creme Sherry in the center and the outside was a VERY good dark chocolate that was to die for! I remember years back how good they were and they were expensive then and I do not know if they still have them. Ooooooooooo they were good!

Why? Are you supposed to "fast" from goodies in his honor? Or, is it just that the newsletter didn't acknowledge it? Not everyplace in the world, nor even in the US, "celebrates" MLK Day... and even those that do, well, it's been moved to this coming Monday....

Actually, today is a religious holiday (Ho-Onko) for me... to be "celebrated" on Sunday, for convenience. Having the temple New Year's party that day, too.... Kaytee "Simplexities" on

It all depends on what sort. The best caramel filled chocolate is Dove, made by Mars Co. My vote for dark chocolate is for Cadbury's Old Gold with Macadamias. I don't eat white "chocolate".

If the centre was cherry and coconut, then it was a Cherry Ripe, if not then I don't know what it was.
