What Size Nymo?

Hi

I need some advice on what size Nymo to use. I will be using delicas in a peyote panel. I have a cone of white Nymo B that I have been using forever but I need black for this current project.

I have looked on ebay and I can find B but there is also O. Is this finer than the B? I see there are some listings for japanese nylon threads too eg 'Japanese Nylon Beading K.O Thread for Delica'. Does anyone have experience with these?

Thanks in advance.

I have found the black to be coarser than the white for some reason, I'd go for the smaller size.

Hi, Rachel. This is a late response, but the post just caught my eye...

Size O Nymo is thinner than B. Delicas have such a large hole, I would stick with the Size B, rather than Size O... unless you need to go back through the beads multiple times.

What are you using the finished panel for? A window hanging? Then for sure stick with the Size B Nymo for the strength.

Also, I'm assuming you pre-condition your Nymo thread? I just heard from a friend of mine that told me that Thread Heaven has been known to cut threads (those silly sparkles they put in it - if they still do - I dug mine out) and that it also disintegrates the thread much faster than if you used Beeswax. Sometimes the old ways of doing things are the best.

And, as Valerie suggested, be sure to pre-stretch the thread and keep the thread tension as tight as possible when weaving the beads, as long as it doesn't distort the weaving... that way, the weight of the beads won't eventually pull the threads apart after it's hung for awhile. I don't know what the 'Japanese Nylon Beading K.O Thread for Delica' is either and I've always used Nymo, even when Silamide and other threads came into being. I just like to work with it better because I know how it reacts. Can't teach this old dog new tricks. lol

There used to be a woman here on the group that would pre-stretch her thread by hanging it with weights off of a door knob. This is not recommended for households with cats. :)
