Yow! Boy, the kid was right - again!

Drat - I hate it when the kid is so right, and I am so wrong.

I've had a bad pain week (long story), and haven't been out at all. I didn't even make it to the acupuncturist on Friday, because I'd have had to drive myself and I couldn't even walk. Not wanting to endanger anyone else, I cancelled the appointment.

But today, I felt a little better. My mother wanted to take Amanda and me for a pizza, so I thought there wouldn't be any harm. Mom picked us up, and off we went. We were having a good time when all of a sudden Manda interrupted and said, "Mom, we have to leave _right now._ You look awful."

Because she is usually good at seeing these things before I feel them, I took her warning seriously. My mother pooh-poohed it, and took her sweet time driving. I still felt okay, and started sorting the mail when we got to the house. Manda followed me in the front door and yelled (!) at me; "Get upstairs Mama! I'll take care of the stupid mail - Just go!"

I moved, mostly because of the emotion in her voice. And I made it up four stairs before I collapsed.

Fortunately, there was an almost fifteen year old on my heels to catch me and hold me in place until I was able to crawl up the rest of the stairs. (With assistance) I'm now in my wheelchair, resting up from my experience. Manda yelled at me for a while and is now taking a nap (I think the stress just wore her right out)..

Crap - I hate it when she's right. And it looks like we're taking a trip to the ER - when I fell, I think I broke a bone in my foot. It is now totally black and I can't get a shoe on it. double crap.

DAMNIT, KATHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm so glad you have Manda around, but this had GOT to stop.

**SIGH** it's wicked hard to take when the kid yells at you, i know. been there. but . . . . . we want you around. can you have two wheelchairs - one upstairs and one downstairs, at least? [and don't get me started on your mother!]

Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear that you broke your foot. Lucky you have such an observant daughter, though.

Hope you feel better soon.

Kathy, please don't hang out with your Mom any more unless your DD is with you!!!!!

Thank God for Manda's intuition.

Have you thought about installing an elevator? Maybe one of those seats that rides you up the stairs?

So sorry about your foot, but at least now they have a good reason to give you some pain meds!

wait a minute---it took a bit to sink in, but Kathy-----you didn't go to the acupuncturist because you felt too bad to drive....but DID go out the next day with your Mother for pizza. Yes?

Man, do I wish I could be Mom at your house for a few months. Ever hear the rule---too sick to go to the doctors/care for yourself---too sick to go out and play? If I didn't like you so much, I'd seriously give you crap about this!!!! I DO understand wanting to do things when you feel good----but how about a reschedule at the acupuncturists instead of pizza?

can't get a shoe on it.<

Goodness, Kathy! I hope nothing's broken, but a trip to the ER is probably a very good idea (especially since it was your collapse that resulted in your foot injury). {{{{{Kathy}}}}}

Kathy, I don't care what that house Means To Your Family Line. A house is just a thing. You need to get into a house with ONE STORY. Honest to god.

Yup. No way would I let Kevin get away with that when he broke his wrist this week....you think I'm going to let YOU?

NO. Take a book and a snack and a pillow, and go. And take Manda! (Where the heck is Bob today?) ~~ Sooz To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong. ~~Joseph Chilton Pearce

That is an absolutely stellar piece of advice. My mother is terrible at seeing illness, and Manda is incredibly intuitive. I almost hate to say it, but once Manda can drive, things are going to be a lot easier around here.

No kidding.

We're looking at it. New systems are really expensive, but used ones are cheap and widely available. (Apparently, a lot of people get them and croak soon afterward)

No pain meds. I'd have had to wait three to four hours to even get to the regular ER (which can prescribe pain meds), and I was not even close to up to it.

Thank you so much. It was a real nothing episode, and my own stupid fault for not listening to Amanda immediately.

Stand in line. I've gotten my share from Bob, Manda, my father in law, the docs at the ER, and random strangers.

I did reschedule - for Monday. Bob won't be at work during the day, so I don't have to worry about driving. My biggest fear is that even though the acupuncturist is so close that if I'm unable to walk, I'd be dangerous on the road. I don't ever want to hurt anyone, even if it meant giving up my driver's license.

BTW, Bob was at work when all this happened. He is not especially happy with me right now. I suspect that I will be hearing about this for a long, long time.

He had to work this afternoon, when all this happened. He did take me to the ER as soon as he came in and I showed him my foot. I have been given several lectures already, and am under strict orders not to get up unless it is to go to the bathroom (and even then, I'm supposed to ask for an escort).

I did bring two new beading books I want to read and review for the group, but things went so quickly I didn't need them. I think I'll go read in a little bit, so I can do the reviews. (One is the new book on Right Angle Weave by Chris Prushing that I've been wanting forever - it just came out and I got it this morning)

It bites being treated like a six year old, although I kinda brought it on myself this time.

You know - in OHIO - you can apply early if there are "extenuating circumstances" (such as a family illness) generally the young driver is still required to have an adult -- you might check with your state and see if she can get an early waiver - and you can start training her right away....

Finally found the beginning of this.

Bad pain week? Aren't the docs addressing the kidney stones?

I know how hard it is not to try to accommodate Mom instead of taking the reasonable of yourself you would demand other people do. Having Manda help talk to her grandma does sound like a good idea. Among other things, think how good it would be for Manda to be able to improve conditions for you. To do it with the force of her heart and her intelligence. It would be very empowering for her.

Meanwhile demand that Manda be respected by her grandmother for her intelligent observations. And that your NEEDS by respected before someone else's WANTS (like your mothers)! It a hard thing to accomplish, and you'll need a little help from your friends. We are very happy to help.

yah....thats' why I kept it to one verbal bellow---I figured there'd be a line forming!!!

That was ver good info a few posts back about checking into getting your DD driving, at least able to even if she's young still----and does she know CPR basic safety/rescue stuff? might be a very good thing for her to take at the local red cross or Y. I hope you feel better soon----and remember, you can soak that foot in MSM and water and it'll help a lot! Sarajane
