A craft is under threat

I am taking a break from my doodle pad to ask for some help from you who also love forums, free forums. There is a crisis happening in alt.binaries.crafts.pictures where we swap machine embroidery files freely. Our very quiet nexus of the Internet has been invaded by a lady calling from snipped-for-privacy@sadiasews.com with abuse and threats of having people taken to the law. I doodle in the pictures group too, it is very helpful in getting designs to try out if you want to take the time to download any design you ask for. I have bought designs from this Sadia and felt cheated but not concerned, now she turns up and start screaming about going to the poor house because the group posts embroidery designs..not hers! So what is her biz!! The consensus is overwhelming, no one wants her designs! So Sadia comes to cause trouble in our group. I am asking crafters everywhere to place a ban on any links to sadiasews.com or at the very least email her snipped-for-privacy@sadiasews.com and give an opinion. It is hard enough to get started in quilt and embroider without scammers having a piece of our loaded Amex card ready to go! The pictures group helps us all with getting started and then helps by trying out stuff and telling if it is any good or no. So please help our group to help your new starters. Subscribe to alt.binaries.crafts.pictures, read the FAQ posted and then tell Sadia where to go! Hugs to all crafters :-) polly

TO whom it may concern:

I can assure you that Sadia is NOT a SCAMMER in any way-she has worked very hard to produce quality embroidery-what I'm sure she is complaining about is that you are breaking the LAW-the copywrite law by giving away embroidery files to others on this site----it is not fair to buy designs from a business/person and then give those designs away in any form and so most all copywrite their designs. We (a group of embroidery persons) are constantly turning people into ebay to have them removed because they "bootleg" designs and sell them...giving them away is just as illegal and if the music industry is able to prove this so that MP3 files with music cannot be downloaded for free then you should be able to conclude that unless you are ONLY giving away machine embroidery design files that you personally have digitized (and everyone else on the group) then the group as a whole is perpetuating an illegal activity. I"m not a customer of Sadia nor do I even have any of her designs in my files-however I do find it sad that you see fit to try to blackball Sadia when in fact she is correct and trying to protect all those embroidery designers who work so hard to produce quality designs and only get paid a few dollars for them. If you don't want her designs fine don't buy them-but don't give away other designs that have been bought. Even with clip art-you must have a release from the artist stating that it is OK for you to resale the design after being digitized---most people don't ever stop to think about this but more and more artists are taking digitizer, advertisers, etc to court over this....

Sadia-whether you like her or not-is most certainly considered in the embroidery community to be a legitimate and concerned digitizer. She is respected. Her viewpoint on this subject is the most coveted viewpoint among digitizers---if you chose to continue to feel that it is ok to freely share designs without control---well, then you will end up on the wrong side of the law eventually. Her warnings are well heeded-everyone makes mistakes when they start in business and you simply can't know everything...but the first time you see someone giving away your designs (why then would anyone pay for them if they can get them for free on a group site or for less on ebay?) you will understand why digitizers feel so strongly about this.
