Arrgh!! PE Design 5.0 upgrade install

Hello,

Coming out of lurkdom begging for help! I know this topic was extensively discussed on this group several months ago, but I've googled myself senseless and can't find it.

I have a new computer, Windows XP, and installed my PE Design 2.0, then tried the 5.0 upgrade disc. The first few times I got a blue screen with an error message that flashed so quickly I couldn't read it. The computer would restart in the middle of the installation.

Now I install it and it's not installing completely. I've uninstalled and installed both versions. I've uninstalled the antivirus software, thinking there was a conflict there.

The computer recognizes the pe design 5.0 dongle with no problem.

My last laptop ran this software perfectly on Windows XP, but this one is giving me a fit. It's a shame to pay this much money for software that won't run without a lot of fiddling and fooling with your computer. Grrrrr.

Help!

Emily the same thing happened to me you need to download the upgrade from the brother website, in my case it was because I had a new computer with a dual processor

Well, I downloaded the 5.6 upgrade and it still won't install.

The software almost completely installs, then I get a blue screen that flashes and the computer reboots.

I emailed Brother for help and no reply yet. I called the manufacturer of the computer and they couldn't help.

If any of you have ideas please reply.

That blue screen is a fatal error screen from NT based OS's. I'm not sure where exactly with XP you go to shut off the auto reboot with it, but you can with Win2k. This may sound like silly, but sometimes, just running the defrag and disk scan utilities might help. If you have access to the latest Norton Utilities and can run Windoctor, that will help cleanup registry errors that could be causing this. I won't promise that this will cure it, but it may help. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. Today, after lots of research and hair-pulling, I got it installed and it's working properly now. Doing the happy dance!!
