Brother PC6500

Hello, I´m planning to upgrade to an embroidery machine with a bigger design area than my current 4*4 and have noticed that my friend in the US I can get a brand new Brother PC 6500 (design area 5*7) for way under $1000. I have looked for opinions on this machine and have come up with nothing so far (the 8500 and the ULT 200x I have found plenty about). Anyone here with an opinion? Is this an "old" (outdated) machine? I´m mainly interested in the embroidery side of it and I have PLENTY of designs, software and cardwriter for Brother cards so what designs are included in the machine is not important. I prefer doing designs edits on the computer so the bigger screen on the 8500 and ULT 200x is not that interesting (even though they look VERY nice!!) The sewing side is of less importance, even though I of course want it to be OK. What do you say out there? Would it be an OK buy or would $650 extra for the 8500 be well spent?

Asa (in Sweden and VERY jealous of the prices on embroidery machines and accesories in USA!! Double or more over here!!)

Thank you so much for your input!! I agree that smaller designs will probably be far more common than the big ones, but I have hade a couple of moments with my PE 200 when a slightly bigger design area would have been very useful. I´m so glad you like the machine! Husbands do have their bright moments!! :-)

to have it

You know, these things do!!! The area in my house that was ment to be a tidy area with a huge (I really meen HUGE) table perfect for entertaining is most of the time covered with sewing machines, fabrics, projects, card-making..... Not tidy at all!!! Huge tables can be used for all sorts of things! But you know what, it keeps your wife happy, and that means peace for you! And an excellent excuse to get that really not terribly necessary thing you always wanted for your workshop! ;-) Asa

Yeah, last weekend we bought a new 7'x6' "L" shaped desk for my wife because the old 3'x4' one was no longer sufficient. She also now needs a couple of additional tall storage cabinets. Embroidery takes up space!!!

What? Any free time I have is to be spent creating, modifying, & digitizing designs then saving to cards. Somehow I got roped into doing ALL computer related tasks! Arggggggg!!! ;- >

stuff!

together.

My late husband was a computer technician and when he came home he stayed as far away from the computer as possible. Chopping trees or moving large objects with the tractor (and then moving them back the next day :-)...) was more his thing. However, when I was working with embroidery designs he was really fascinated! By the computer work, and by the machine! He loved seeing it doing it´s job all by itself between thread changes! I went and did something else (like women do ;-)...) but he could stay and watch! He didn´t dare doing the thread changes though. (Have you ever noticed how some men can take a vehicle totally apart and the rebuild it perfectly, but find houshold appliances way too complicated to operate!?) This dicsussion sure brings back fond memories!
