I would second the comments on the Happy Voyager - we liked it so much that we became part-time reps for WA state (nice disclaimer, huh?)
I compared ALL of the compact machine options, and found for my wife's part-time business that there is NOTHING on the market that even comes close to the Happy Voyager (we have other home machines, and also were part of the ill-fated renaissance testing program - you know, release the machines when they were known to be a piece of junk, and then solicit opinions....we went thru 2 of those boat anchors before we had enough).
Another limitation of Brother/Babylock 6 needle is that from what I can tell, and have heard from dealers, the machinery inside is not that much stronger built than a ULT - that would worry me quite a bit if I was thinking about running the thing 7-8 hours a day - the Happy is built to survive that kind of use day in, day out.
Admittedly, I am biased - but the machine came before the rep position for us - not the other way around.
The only drawback on the Happy (for home embroiderers) is the use of DST format files - once the home embroiderer is past that conceptual shift (not having pre-assigned colors, just color stops) it is a piece of cake. When she outgrows this one, we will just put a second one next to it instead of a different machine - we really love it.

sampled Brother's subcontracted repair service. Let's just say I will not buy anything with their label again.
Another "little" detail they don't boast about is the 2" height limit on the cap embroidery option. If you're looking for a logo AND text on a cap, this will render it almost useless.
every penny. User friendly, fantastic sew out quality and industrial design.
