Brother Ult 2003 problem

I have had this machine for about 6 months and haven't needed to adjust it yet.

Lately, when embroidering, it keeps stopping and giving the rethread the upper thread message even when it is still threaded. The problem is that it will go through most of the design and be fine but towards the end, it will be doing this frequently, say every 10 stitches or so.

What is causing this? I tried adjusting the tension up and down, cutting the thread and restarting, rethreading upper and bobbin threads. None of that seems to work. The only thing that I have changed recently is gone from using prewound bobbins to winding my own. Don't know if somehow that could be affecting it.

I know that there are much more experienced embroiderers out there that can hopefully offer some suggestions :)

TIA, Amy

Are you using brother bobbin thread? I only have success with the original brother thread even fine lingerie thread causes me a problem like this. I have the 2100 as well as this machine but that uses any thread on the bobbin with no problems, I questioned this with a friendly engineer (brother) and he confirmed it need the correct thread. just my pennies worth

The thread that I wound myself is Brother bobbin thread. It doesn't seem to be wound as tight as the prewounds when I do it myself. Perhaps that is the problem. Thanks for the reply. I will continue to work on the bobbin end of things to see if it resolves.

Go back to the pre-wounds!! the tension on them is much more even, I think.......

When the machine gives the message, is it still correctly threaded? Some makes/models have a sensor that tells the machine when the thread breaks. Sometimes lint can interfere with the sensor. With some machines, there's also a quick 10-second adjustment your friendly neighbourhood dealer can make that will reduce the sensitivity of the sensor so it won't be affected by normal movement of the thread.

I had that problem on my Ellageo a few weeks ago and it turned out there was thread and lint in the threading "path." It worked its way out and I have had no problem since. If you can't blow it out with compressed air or something, you may need to take it to the dealer to be cleaned.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I took off the cover by the thread loading area and found lots of tangled threads. Cleaned that out and happy embroidering once again! Have so far done two designs without any problems.

How did you take off the cover? I have had my 2203D less than 6 months and am very much in the learning stages. This is my first machine and experience with machine embroidery.

Also, where does one get pre-wound bobbin thread? And is it Brother bobbin thread? Does it come in anything other than black and white?

Thanks for your help.
