Embroidery on Hankies

I want to embroider a short verse on some very delicate hankies for a wedding. Has anyone ever done this and has some pointers, especially on the type of backing used. I am thinking of probably sticky back?

Thanks for your help.

I have not done this, but I did embroider on some net. I used water soluable both front and back. That way you don't see the stabilizer after it is done. If the hankie is very delicate, put 2 layers on the back and one on the front. HTH

I have done some embroidery on hankies for a friend of mine so she can use them at church. Her grandmother had done some by hand and wanted to see if I could do them on my machine. After some experimenting and talking to other embroiderers this is what I found to work. Use a stickey back water soluble stabilizer and attach it to the back of your hoop. I used S-dSV? available from

You can then position the hankie in the correct location to stitch out your design and you do not have to hoop it. You also need to you a very fine needle and look at slowing down the speed of your machine. Hope this helps.
