husqvarna viking designer 1 problems

My wife got a Designer 1 in May 2002. It has broken down 5 times. After the 3rd time, they gave her a brand new machine. It's broken down twice now. Is this machine a piece of junk or are we just the unlucky ones?

It started last year when the bobbin thread keep showing through on the embroidery designs. They sent it in to be repaired, came back worse than before. Sent it back in, they lost it, found it, had it for several months. When it came back, it still wasn't working. So they gave her a new one. By this time, the machine was almost a year old and the dealer had it more than us. When they gave us the new machine, they assured us it came with a full one year warranty. It broke down last month. Sewing along , suddenly my wife hears a clunk and something falling inside. Wouldn't run after that. Got it back yesterday, it just went clunk again. Of course the manage who assured us we had a full warranty no long works there so they are arguing with us about the bill. It doesn't help that we bought this from a sewing center in the middle of a JoAnn Fabrics where the personal change every 30 days. The person who has been the longest is the part timer who is bitter that they never make her manager.

And just to add salt to the wound. This machine was a gift from my wife's father from his death bed. He was in the hospital, dying of cancer. Gave my wife his credit card and told her to go buy that sewing machine she had been looking at. He died a week later.

Ok, I'm done ranting. To all those who have made it this far, Thanks for listening.

Anyone have any suggestions what we should do about this?

I would threaten them with taking your problem to the Better Business Bureau. We actually had to do that once with our phone company, and we got action immediately. Julie

Sounds as if you have a bad repair person as well.

The D1, D2 and Quilter are all built on the same aluminum frame with different items added or deleted to get the three configurations. It's a good machine and I haven't seen any chronic problems (well, maybe bobbin winding and needle threader issues {user training?})

Guess what? We got the worse case. No one in the area repairs them, it is shipped to the Viking Repair center.

Just exactly where are you located, the name of the city or town will do.

The machine came back today. They called and said it was ready to pick up. My wife asked if they gave it a good testing first.

If I were you, I'd go into the store and test your machine there. Leave the loaner at home (or in the car) and don't exchange machines until you're satisfied that your machine is working properly. You may have done better by having the machine go to VSM for servicing, than if it were done in house where you bought the machine.

Like I want ANOTHER machine from them. I've paid to have it repaired about 3 times on top of the "warranty" work they did on it prior. Today, I have been sewing Christmas presents. Completed one and now, the touch display will not work. I've turned it off and on and am in the process of using Google to find a resolution. I truly do not have any extra money to put into the machine. It goes without saying, Husqvarna has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I just got rid of my D1 today! It has been nothing but a lemon from the 1st day out of the store! It was one of the originals from the 1st go around!! The dealer (which is now out of business) wouldn't ever fix the issues! It 's been in and out of service with tension and bobbin issues
