I've done it..I've taken the plunge...

I brought home a Husqvarna Viking Iris Embroidery/Sewing Machine. I also purchased the Maderia Treasure Chest and the USB reader/writer, but the software is on order (so I can't play with downloaded images yet... ;( ) I've run a few test pieces with the designs that come with the machine, and have actually done one article of clothing already! I put a design of a pair of stylized birds on a polo shirt...a two color design, and I changed the colors..(figgured what the hey, let's use some of the thread that came with the machine...the manufacture included a spool of an orangy color threaded on the machine and a spool each of christmas green and berry red and white bobinfil. The store threw in their "ESP" package which includes an 8pack of Maderia threads. I'm sooo looking forward to getting the software in so I can do any design my little heart feels like (got my eye on some parrot designs....and a few alphabets...and some horses for my daughter ...and...and...and.... (LOL) )

Download Embird and you can play with many many things. You will probably need to purchase it anyway as it is the best software for customizing and digitising on the market. It will at least keep you busy till the other comes in. It is the only software I use with all my embroidery machines. Just got the new Janome 300 and it is the ONLY software I need for that along with an ATA card writer reader which belongs to my camera.

I thought about Embird, I really did...and I may still get it at some point, but I've ordered Husqvarna's new 3D digitizing/customizing software. I will get free lifetime lessons on how to use it and how to use the Iris, and how to use the two together. Since this is my first venture, I opted for something with lessons.

that's good. With any of the HV software you will need them. Lessons are available for Embird also from many sources, but it is really a straightforward and easy program to use. The built in tutorials are excellent. I did not find much new in the HV 3d over their other software except for the way the designs are displayed it is the same. I did like the organizer though it was not as versatile as Embird and did not print out the color layers it was useful for viewing downloaded designs. One of our workers told me the whole 3d package was posted to alt. binaries.crafts.pictures last week.
