I think that Ebay has a confusing policy about who, what, where folks can promote THEIR OWN auctions.
BTW, on Ebay I saw a

Thank you for the information. Bonnie

I wouldn't do it Bonnie. I did, and somebody who clearly has no life reported me to both Sympatico and to eBay, who in turn both sent me warnings. Some people in here can really get in a snit when you try to sell something.
Peggy
Thanks Peggy I won't do it. I have seen messages all over about e-Bay auctions and didn't realize one couldn't do that. I guess I'd better read the small print some more. Bonnie

It isn't against eBay rules to advertise your auctions, it's against their rules to advertise in a forum who's rules it violates. If nobody OWNS the newsgroup and there is nobody to dictate what can and can't be done, why are their so many newsgroup police in here who rag on you if they don't like your posting? I made ONE sewing-related post about a sewing book series I was selling on eBay and in addition to being reported to my ISP and eBay, I received a very rude e-mail from a regular in these sewing groups telling me to stop "spamming the newsgroups"
Personally, I love to hear what people have to offer, as long as it is related to the subject of the newsgroup.
Peggy
All in favor? Many.
Opposed? If so speak now or the Aye's have it.
Because they llike to control things. I am surprised that I got some support. Was expectin massive flames and to be ragged on. I would like to know when sewing related stuff is posted to any site. I am rural and have a limited opportunity to 'shop' for stuff. Mostly I purchase from the net, so any and all supplies, machines etc are worth looking at. I don't know what to look for on e-Bay so when an auction is posted here I know it is in my area of interest. I certainly would like to bea abke tto make my own decision if I want to have a look . The DELETE key works on a newsgroup too and possibly putting 'for sale' or some such key phrase in the subject line would alert the 'newsgroup police' that this is one post they should avoid. I say "Post Away" let us see what you have. Even just the URL link will work.

NOW is the time to attack the bugs on the monitor and walking on the keyboard is the way to get there.
Add me to the ayes as long as it is related to machine embroidery. Better save these posts to show to your ISP when someone gets into a snit about it.
Pearl...wishing I could bid on the thread stand
Yes, absolutely ..... the distinction is that it is 'related to machine embroidery'. I can understand that posting unrelated items would be upsetting, especially to folks who have to pay by the minute to download newsgroup posts.
Sounds like a workable resolution. This has been a great newsgroup and only grows greater!

I guess the yes vote has the floor but I don't need to post the links as a kind person here did it for me and yes they are both machine embroidery related. Thank you for being kind. Bonnie
"count me as a yes Kathy
Did a quick poll of the NG I belong to. One I have been on for 15 years. When they have something that is group related to sell or an Auction to advert, the subject line will read " Auction alert" or "Sale Notice" or something like that. Being as we are 'Machine Embroidery' I would think that anything machine or embroidery related could be posted. Like I said before some of my best 'finds' in vintage and antique machines have been from here and alt sewing.
