I had to go look at mine, haven't used it since about April. we just moved, and am still unpacking boxes. but I have the same model. so when you say you can't get the pressure goot down all the way, is that regular sewing, or machine embroidery?

well first sorry to hear that your pressure foot doesn't go down all the way. if you open the left side door, lift the lever to see if anything is moving in there. I see 1 screw on mine, so maybe the screw is missing, or not in all the way. if you are missing the screw, then Sears may have to look at it, and fix it for you. or even ask to purchase that screw and you can put it in yourself. Or if you have a Janome dealer near by, see if they can fix it. my foot goes up and down with the lever just fine. when you first turn on the machine, you will have 3 options on the screen. the first is regular sewing mode, the middle is the built in alphabet mode, and the

3rd is when you want to do embroidery. but before you turn on the machine, you need to have the card in the slot, or you'll get an error. oh and to do the 2 latter, you do need to have the hoop and embroidery foot on. now the embroidery foot doesn't really touch the base, as it embroiders, it does need to be off for the hoop to move around. I had to go get mine out, turn it on, just to remember. I first bought the 19000, had a problem with it within 6 months, and sears was telling me it was going to take 6 weeks before I had it back. well after a few days of moaning and groaning over that, I had called them back, and requested a new machine, that I wasn't going to wait that long for it to get fixed, so they agreed, and I got the new model of the 19001. so far so good, knock on wood. like I said, we just moved in, and still unpacking. did you get a manual with the machine? I'm guessing not. you can contact sears and request a copy of the manual. it isn't that old, so they should be able to help you on that. if you want to email me, put a hyphen in between the 2 words. I had to change that, because of spam mail getting in, and the less I have to deal with that, the better I feel.
