Lettering

Hello. I am having problems with getting lettering to look good. I have a Ult 2003d. I have tried different styles of those preset on the machine and have just started experimenting with those in PE Design. The smaller the letters, more bobbin thread seems to poke through. This seems to be remedied with the medium and large letters

Right now, I am going to be doing a couple of aprons, but want to be able to do smaller letters.

Any suggestions? Is it a needle problem? If so what size works best for what?

TIA. I have gotten so many helpful suggestions around here!

Smaller designs have more stitches per mm, causing the needle to go through an already made hole from an earlier stitch. Usually due to the knit of the fabric. So, yes try a narrower needle but better still, try different types of stablizers to see if they will premit the close stitching.

PE Design probably has options to increase the stitch spacing, look for that in the software.
