Looking for information

I have been asked to embroider a family tree on a large blanket and was wondering if anyone has done this before and if so what is the best way to go about it. I am fairly new to embroidery and any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!!

This doesn't look much like help...more like a sales pitch... I could think of a few ways to make a family tree without using "Giant Hoop It All".

Ok Renee...How do you want the tree to look and what k>I never did that project, but if I were to do something like that I would

I just gave my way of doing the project. I very seldom use the giant hoop it all, but for doing a large project ALL in embroidery that is the way I would go. I never thought of appliquéing, because I hate appliquéing, so sorry that it looked like a sales pitch to you. nobody answered her post for a couple days, so I finally answered it with what I would do.

Do any of you know where to purchase a tree design used for family tree embroidery? I've never seen one, though they must exist.

I just finished making ancestry albums for my 2 sisters. I used a binder to hold the pages info and prints of old family photographs (I'm also into genealogy). I embroidered the front with a nice heirloom type frame on 100% linen, and inside the frame it said, "The Family History of (sis's name)". My sisters were so surprised when they opened the gifts and very, very appreciative. I encourage any of you into genealogy research to make these for your family. They are wonderful presents.

I would love to make a family tree blanket throw next year for my sisters. If any of you know where to buy the tree design, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Then please accept my apology to you. After spending a lot of money on my embroidery machine, software, designs, thread, stabilizer...you get the picture...I would hate to have to spend more for a mega hoop. Also I believe that some machines are limited to a small stitching field.

If you are up to doing it free-hand machine style, I might suggest you so a search for genealogy sites which all have Family tree motifs ( usualy for printers of to fill out by hand ) some of them are quite nice and you could print one and then draw it on the blanket and embroider it that way, one small section at a time.

apology accepted. I know that hoop is allot of money, I had to put aside for a couple months just to get mine, and like I mentioned, if I were to do a large design, I would use this hoop. another mentioned free hand embroidery, hopefully 1 of these days, I can get the hang of that, and won't have to use the large hoop, have seen it done on some sewing show, either HGTV, or Sewing with Nancy, taped it, but just can't find that tape. we just moved into a new home 3 months ago, and I am just now getting back into sewing, made a fleece coat for my dad for Christmas, probably could have gotten it less expensive, but wanted to make it myself for him. and now am making a pair of sweat pants for myself, had to throw 1 pair away this summer, got pine pitch on it and it would come out in the wash, but had them for a few years. talking about spending allot on a machine, I would have loved to had gotten the Viking Rose, mostly because of the name, but couldn't afford it, saw Kenmore had an embroidery machine for $1600 back then, put it on the card, and took me about a year to pay that off. I wish that I had looked around and gotten an used embroidery machine, but didn't know better back then, and we learn from our mistakes. but I love my machine, and do need to find something to embroider, instead of just sewing. also have an old treadle machine that I'm waiting for prices on a couple parts, and look forward to getting back into working condition, and using that for maybe my quilting.
