I bought a denim shirt a while back intending to decorate it, and a recent planned trip to the OR coast finally motivated me to get going:

Very nice, I keep intending to customise some things for me, but end up needing to wear them anyway, so they don't get done. This is a very good reminder of the difference that custom embroidery adds to a premade garment.

But, you can decorate them anytime! The shirt I just did was purchased a few months ago, and I've worn it several times 'un-decorated'. It was just calling out for lighthouses...

The one I was really thinking of was a cream fleece jacket - wearing it to work in our engineering business was a mistake! I'm hoping that in the autumn I may feel more inspired. At the moment there are too many unpleasant surprises.

Try Sharon's BIZ treatment? I bought some and have nice fresh looking white sox again. ;-)

And if that doesn't work, EverBlum:

have used that to remove oily stains on knit T-Shirts which have been through the washer and dryer (I usually pre-treat, but occasionaly miss one and "set" it in the dryer. A dab of EverBlum, a little liquid soap right on the spot, and toss in the next wash load. It does NOT leave a ring, almost never fails to remove the stain. It's good stuff.
