Problem Embroidering on Caps

Last night we tried emboidering baseball style caps for the first time with Hoop-It-All and our Brother PC-8200 embroidery machine. The embroidery presser foot will not handle the thickness of the OTTO CAPS (especially going over the center seam) without sliding forward into the needle path causing the needle to break. Is this typical or am I missing something? We have the brim held in the plastic clamp as recommended on the Hoop-It-All instructions. It doesn't seem this machine could ever be used for such thick material.

The machine works fine on plain cloth embroidery. The presser foot is centered about the needle in down position on plain cloth. The thicker the material the further the presser foot moves forward and at about 3/16" thickness it is under the needle when the needle is down.

I put the hoop-it-all in my hoop, and just stick the cap to it without using clamps. This works fine for my machine, but I don't have a Brother. I would suggest trying it without the clamps and see if that helps. Megan
