questions for sewing machine enginners

I have aquired two 1950's Union Special industrial machines, (511000bp) they came from a paper sack factory, now i need a machine for sewing up tarpaulins for my boat, i emailed Union but they are only interested in selling me a new machine, these two machines sew a wide knotted up stitch for closing the bottom of sacks, does any one know....

A; if i can get a simple stitch out of these machines ?

B; if not, are they worth anything as part exchanges ?

C; any where i can find spares to convert them to normal stiching ?

D; should i throw them in a skip ?

Thanks for answering my questions

Sounds like a chain sstitcher.....if there is no bobbin then probably not

Yes, I would think so. contact one of the Used Industrial places.

If it was not made to do a 2 thread stitch then I doubt this could be changed.

No, At least try to sell them to an appropriate re-seller or put them up on eBay---pick up only of course they would be a female dog to ship

Not an expert or anything but it does sound like you have a chain stitch machine. Do a Goggle search for Used Industrial to see if you can make a deal. You may be able to trade both for a straight stitch machine. Where are you located/ You can also try joining the WeFixIt yahoo list. sometimes people there want unusual machines or they can answer better than I can.
