I "test drove" a ULT2003 the other day. I sewed out my name in the small letters, and I did not like the way that it sewed out. There was alot of white bobbin thread pulled through to the top. I also noticed some problems with the sew outs that the store had done previously.

the machine ordered and it will be here on Tuesday. I already have the NEB prewounds. What kind of thread are you using? I have some (all, but 2 colors) Madeira Toledo 60# and was wondering if I will have to sell all of this ? Sandy

lingerie/bobbin

I started with a kit of Brother Disney colors (40 spools I think), which I'm still using. I also bought a set of UltimaPoly from Allbrands. Both are size 50 weight. I wouldn't think you would have a problem with Madeira thread. I'd try it and see. I had a trial of a digitizing program (Thred) that had options to pick 40, 50 or 60 weight thread. Since 60 weight is thinner, it would probably be better for densely digitized designs.

Keep your Toledo 60wt... Brother's (and most other) bobbin thread is 60wt polyester as well. You can use your Toledo in the bobbin (really great for redwork/etc styles) where you want color to show on both sides, and for designs that you've decided to reduce from the original size on the machine..... Toledo is also great for any of the stand-alone lace style designs (aka K-Lace).

Have fun with your ULT!! Beowulf

I am learning my ULT2003 machine and have tried to change the size of a freebie design I got online. I could not change the colors using PE Design, but was able to on the ULT2003 itself.

I also could only change the size so much and then the ULT wouldn't let me enlarge it any more. I then went in to some of the built in Disney designs and found that I can't enlarge them at all. I can just choose Large, Medium, or Small for some of them.

What hints can other ULT users give me on size and colors? What is the biggest design I can do on the ULT? I probably should know this, but don't.

What if you wanted to do a great big Mickey, but can't enlarge the design? Are you SOL?

Thanks for any help.

HI Marianne - hope to help a little...

Not sure what you tried - you should be able to change the colors by importing the/a design into Layout & Editing, and use the sewing order (Sew Menu >

sewing order or F10 shortcut, or 123 button towards right hand side of toolbar). To change the color. select the frame that represents the color/design part that you want to change colors (check the red box that hightlights your choice to confirm you picked the one you meant to), click on the spool, and when the color palette comes up, choose new color and click OK.

The resize Limit on the ULT for non-disney designs is plus or minus 20%. The limiting factor is there because the resizing process does not change the stitch count of the design, so your density is affected. That range is pretty safe for resizing most designs without seriously impacting the look of the design. As to the Disney designs, so goes the long arm of copyright and 'don't mess with our (Disney) stuff.

6.25 x 10.25 is the large hoop size

You are unless you can find a Mickey on the net or in a coloring book and use PED to digitize it yourself so it can be as large as you desire.
