Re: Newbie: Does anyone have the Bernina Deco 650?

also...i have the deco 600---and its VERY TEMPTING to use the prewound bobbins...but, they are "generic" and sooner or later, your machine will decide to hate them (ask me how i know). so, while winding bobbins is a pain....far healthier for the machine....

I have used the prewounds and I prefer the sided ones as opposed to the unsided ones. I have had no problems with either.

Hi Linda! My dealer does have a two hour lesson for this machine, for free, so I'll be taking that. I live in northern Illinois, and my dealer is five minutes away. I cannot believe all the different patterns available for this machine! A person could really go broke! What other machines do you have?

Have you tried the plastic-sided NEB prewounds? I have a Brother 180D and haven't had a problem with them. I find that they hold a lot more thread than any bobbins I wind myself, and the tension seems better. I never have bobbin thread showing on top with the NEB's.

Thanks for the tip! That does look like just the kind of information I will need. Amazon had rave reviews for it too. Julie

I am new to embroidery and I purchased the first one and the second one and also picked up the fleece one. I found out a ton of information from all of the books. I just got the 2nd one off of ebay. Sandy

I have been using the prewound sideless bobbins on both my Pfaff machines(7560 & 6120) for 3-4 years with no problem. I recently I took both of them in for their annual preventative maintenance and they did not need any service at all, the same as the years before. BTW, I buy the bobbins from my dealer.

Have you seen the 2nd book of Embroidery Machine Essentials? Mine should be here tomorrow or Saturday, (ordered from Nancy's Notions) and I am anxiously awaiting to read it. it also includes another free CD of designs. I've certainly learned a lot from the first one. Emily

Well, guess I'll have to wait and see! For now, they're working great and my designs are coming out much better than with the bobbins I wound myself. For me, it might be worth the trade-off of having the tension adjusted now and then. Thanks for the info, tho!

Besides the book called Embroidery Machine Essentials, Jeannine Twigg has published one on basic techniques and now her latest, More Emb. Macine Essentials covers customizing, editing and creating decorative designs. I received my copy yesterday and it seems to be as helpful as the two previous ones. Emily
