Re: Pfaff PC-Designer connectivity issue

I had some problems with my Dell.........but it turns out there are two printer ports, and one of them worked just fine with PE Design, and the printer too.........so try re-installing your printer on the other port........Solved my problem in a flash!!!

There is only one printer port (LPT1). That is not what is used to connect to the 7570 though. You use the serial port (Com1), and there is only one of those as all other com devices are disabled (IR port, modem). So even if there were 2 printer ports on the laptop that would not interfere. Thanks for responding though.

Yes, I know that. The Toshiba I used to make connection during troubleshooting (to see if the cables worked, and if the software was compatible with Win 2000 Pro) has no serial port. I use a PCMCIA Socket card to add one. And as I said, that worked fine. (Only because the socket card attached as com4, because the PC-designer software only allows com1-com4 as communication port options.) In fact in trying to get the Dell to communicate I used the Socket card to add another communications port. Unfortunately the lowest serial port it would become was com5. (Darn it!!)

This probably won't help with your problem but I'll tell you anyway. Yesterday I was talking to someone who has just upgraded to XP Pro and had connectivity problems with PC Designer. Her connection showed up okay momentarily but when she tried to transfer, it crashed so she slowed down the data transfer rate and it solved the problem. This may be of help to someone..............Lynne

I no longer use PC-Design but when I did it was installed in a Dell Computer and worked fine.

Yep, did all that they mentioned there. Even installed a PCMCIA serial adaptor. Unfortunately, it would only install as com5, and PCD only accepts

1 - 4.

Well, since Pfaff won't support it, and I was totally unable to come up with a solution she sold the computer to her son. She is buying a new Brother machine. As to the Customizing software, if that is the current software that Pfaff sells that works with the 2140 machine, we have it and it works fine. (My wife had traded up to the 2140 a couple of months ago.) That software worked fine with the Dell machines. (Inspiron, Latitude) I don't think the friend wanted to spend that much money just on software though. So, she went with the Brother. (Don't know what model, but I understand it is the current one.)
