Reader/writer for Husqvarna

Can anyone tell me if there should be a software disc for the R/W for 3D embroidery? I bought the new R/W a couple of years ago for my old Rose machine, and used it for some time. I recently received a new (to me) pc, and have installed the Embroidery system, but am having trouble getting the R/W installed.

I can't find a disc, and it doesn't seem to have had one according to the list of contents. I've tried putting in the original Embroidery software, but can't get the pc to connect with it. I can't remember there being a software disc with the unit, but I am a senior with an impaired memory! I hope someone can help.

All the software needed to support the reader/writer is included with your 3D Software. I assume from your comments that you have Disk Manager up and running, but that it's failing to communicate with the reader-writer.

Have you installed the dongle correctly?

There may be a problem between newer versions of Windows and the software that supports the dongle. If you're running Vista you may have to run the software in XP compatibility mode; I believe that Windows 7 only has XP compatibility mode on its Professional Edition.

Thanks, Herb. I remember now I bought the reader/writer, then discovered that I couldn't use it without buying the software separately. The previous one came with its own software.

I'm going to uninstall the whole thing and start again, perhaps there's an appropriate point at which to connect the R/W.

An alternative I have used for legacy software is to install an older version of Windows (in my case Win 98 II)) on a newly created partition, and switch back and forth. I used Partition Magic 7.0 for that purpose, it works flawlessly. There are probably many other tools for partitioning the hard drive.

I had to have that for the older customiser, but haven't bothered for the new pc, as I have the new software and R/W. I just need to get the whole thing running properly on the Win XP. I'll sell the customiser if anyone is interested!

Thanks for the help; a new day, and I'll try it all again if the storms keep away.

Does the reader/writer have a USB connection to the computer? If so, as Herb mentions, the driver for it should be in the 3D software.

If the r/w has a parallel connection that makes things a bit more difficult. Sometimes there are issues setting up a computer port to work properly with Windows XP. Some people have had success using a USB to parallel adapter.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It was properly in the USB connection, and nothing else seemed to be wrong. Then I tried a different USB port, and it worked! Maybe the front port was objecting to being used for everything - the dongle was in the other front port. Anyway, now all is well, and thanks to everyone.

Glad to hear that the problem was resolved and you're back in business! And thanks for letting us know.

It's good you have it working. There have been issues with certain USB host controllers not supplying enough voltage for things like the reader/ writers to work properly. And, for some reason, sometimes if you initially set up a device like a reader/writer in a particular USB port, the software won't find it if you plug it into a different port.
