Sewing Machine for Quilter.

Any suggestion for Quilting sewing machine under $500? I need to have darning foot, walking foot, 1/4 inch foot, feed drop, needle down, ajustable speed, knee lifter, longer left side from nedle and flat bigger bed. Like a all the quilter wants. And better light weight. I see some of machine cost around $300, is it really work good? I was looking for expensive machines but, I don't want regret since no refund. Anybody has this price sewing machine and happy about it please share with me. mimi

HI - Beowulf again... in that price range, I'd recommend a Janome. You may want to kick up a little to about $500, the motor will be a little bigger, and usually worth the $$. Something on the order of Janome 6123, 6015QC or 6125QC (QC are quilt based machines with stitches specific to quilting) would be up to the task. The only thing you may not get in that price range is a knee lift. Most of the QC machines come with the feet, etc. you listed, except knee lift.

To check the motor/smoothness - whatever you look at, have the dealer sew thru the equivalent of a jeans seam - if it can handle that without sounding like it's working too hard, it'll work. Used to do this routinely on the machines above when I was working/selling.

By the way, what I meant by jeans seam - have them (or take) a piece of denim (like new, unwashed) in half (double thickness) and then roll/fold part of it twice (to six layers - std jeans felled seam). Start on the double layer, and sew up to and thru the 6 layers - listen to the machine, watch how fast they go to do it, and check for skipped or uneven stitches at the jump up.

Hi PK - I'll be leaving soon for the weekend - if you'd like, I can give you the dealership where I used to work. If you'd like that information, please send email to snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com

The 6123 is an older but still being made model, I think the QC machines 6015 & 6125 would be more to your needs and liking; they are current - just released a year ago. If you can arrange access, machine information is at
