source for thread ?

Hi, I'm a newbie to the group and a newbie to machine embroidery.

I'm looking for reliable, online sources for good machine embroidery threads. Has anyone heard of or used Reliant threads?

Also, what are your favorite brands?

Thanks, Kay Ahr in Reno To reply directly to me, remove "WESTHI" in the email address.

On-line is right. I know of nowhere in Reno to get good thread at a good price. Hancock's carries Sulky, but I don't know anyone who likes it. Windy Moon might have embroidery thread, I don't know.

I like Sylko and I've been getting it from Down Home Dreams at

Shoppers Rule is another good source. Also 5Ts and Brother Mall are places I've heard are good. I joined the club at Shoppers Rule - it's free - and gotten some good buys.

Hi, Kay

Welcome to the group. I am somewhat of a "newbie" and found the following article quite useful:

From that article, I decided to use Gutermann cotton thread. Although I am sure there are a few in the group who may disagree, I have found it works excellent for my machine; even better than the commonly used Mettler. (I have a Brother PE 150 and 50 weight thread is recommended.) I like the soft sheen that cotton has and the prices from my source are quite reasonable. Also, being as I am not a serious full time embroiderer, I buy smaller spools to see if I like the colors then buy the larger spools if I do.

Where I get my thread is Craft Connection.

They have been very helpful and their online thread chart is pretty accurate. One of the women who works there has gone to a lot of trouble to actually photograph the spools. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Thanks for your help in finding threads.

Someone told me how to search the archives of this newsgroup at Google. There was a wealth of info there since this question has been asked several times.

Happy Holidays!

I think you are the same person to responded to me in another newsgroup. I was lamenting the apparent lack of fabric stores in Reno. I sure appreciated all your tips!

I not only found Windy Moon, but I bought a new Brother ULT2003D there last week. Also joined the American Sewing Guild and found a local chapter with fun meetings. And where I work I've found at least half dozen other sewers (sewists?).

Thanks so much for allllllllll your help and advice.

Wow! I'm glad that it worked out so well for you! I've only been in Windy Moon a couple of times, but it is a jewel of a shop from what I saw. I'm afraid to go back -- too much temptation!

Try ARC polyester threads. The price is low and the quailty is great.

I am also new to this group and I have only have had my embroidery machine for about four months. I have not yet bought any thread off line, though I have bought a magic box from oesd and have been very happy with the service that I got from them. they do have thread that you can get and other supplies and of course designs. Go and check them out at
