text question

I'm trying to adapt a font (Perry Gothic) to my Janome machine using Artista to set the lettering then opening it in Embird to finally save it as a .jef file. One letter worked fine, the stitching initially was way too long but I adjusted the denstity in Artista. The next letter simply will not change at all, I get these very long stitches even though the settings are the same as in the previous letter, the one which worked fine. I'm making the letters quite large, three to the large hoop 140 by 200. If anyone has any thoughts on this, or tips, please email me or respond here. Thanks. (relative newbie ... that's me.)

Are you trying to create a separate alphabet (a few dozen separate designs, one per letter) or a specific string of text?

As long as you have Artista, I don't see any reason to create an alphabet at all - just enter whatever text you want when you need it. You can then modify the entire text string at once, you can make the text whatever size you want for the specific project, and you can use whatever patterns and stitch lengths you want - which can and probably should vary from project to project.

I know this doesn't address your question of why you can change one letter but not another - afraid I can't help you there.

Sometimes.....due to the complexities of mathematical formulas/coding and also the complexities of various fonts...you will have a font that just will not work well with the program you are using. I run into this problem on occasion.

If the letter works great at a smaller size....try making it smaller, then select the object, grab a corner handle and drag and pull the object to the size you want it. This might be a way to get around your problem.

Thanks to both of you. I finally changed typefaces and it seemed to work fine. I also made the letters smaller but even then the 'special satin' stitching worked fine, no more long ugly stitches. Who knows why it works on some but not other. I will also, next time, try resizing from the grabs instead of in the size menu. Might work.
