Cast Glass

Why can?t I melt and cast window glass without it becoming milky white , why is this bowl on the bottom of this web page

no, it's not window (float) glass.

it's called either tin bloom, or devit.

try using some cullet or casting glass.

45% lead "normal", hardly. You probably are getting air in the glass, perhaps by having it crushed without it melting completely. The glass making the bowl was probably completely molten at some point. Note that it is not "clear", it has a lot of bubbles even so. Also, glass that spends too much time above about 1250 will show signs of devitrifying, which is white. Normally, you want to bring the temp down below about 1100 as fast as possible. Window glass will be especially prone to this.
