after cutting your glass what do you us to get it clean for foilling, and what do you clean your hands with to keep from getting oil off your hands onto the glass, do you us anything special...I us dawn dish washing liquid
Denatured alcohol. The alcohol (or other solvents like lacquer thinner or acetone) evaporate rapidly. Washing the glass with soap and water, while OK, just means that you have to wait to be absolutely sure the glass is totally dry before you begin to foil.
Believe it or not I use practically nothing. After grinding the edges, I rinse it off under cold water, let it air dry, and then wipe the edge with a cloth. Works great.
And the thing is, you aren't using patterns glued to the glass and oil in your cutter and all the other things that home hobbyists would do.
How about those who stick several layers of glass together with wax and bandsaw the pieces out. Cold water ain't touching that wax...
They've marked with three layers of Sharpies, added God-knows-what in the way of "additives" to the grinder coolants, used "Markstay" to save the Sharpie line for grinding, and dripped marshmallow fudge sundaes all over the project.
That's why I suggested a solvent like alcohol or lacquer thinner. I've seen what these folks can do to make life difficult for themselves.
