Compressor & cold weather question

Since I cannot get the compressor downstairs for my sandblaster, I would like to put it in the garage & run the hose inside. Our winters can get pretty cold - perhaps -32 C or F. Would this damage the compressor? Would it run? The oil part is on top of the tank. I was going to insulate it to a certain degree but should it be heated also? Many thanks for any insights.

I'm just talking out my anal orifice here, but it would seem to me that if it succeeds in starting, it'll run just fine. If it doesn't succeed in starting, it'll probably blow a breaker. That's what my little 8-gallon compressor does when it doesn't start, anyway.

I'd be careful even insulating it. That part of the compressor can get pretty hot when it's running; all those fins aren't there to make it look all space-agey. An air compressor is just like an air conditioner. Ever notice how cold the nozzle of your sandblaster gets? All that heat has to go somewhere, and keeping it penned up once it gets there sounds like a bad idea. If you do heat or insulate it, make sure to turn off the heat or remove the insulation once the compressor starts making its own warmth.

I would be awful cautious due to the condensate water inside the tank that occurs during the compressing of the air in the tank. I drain my tank every third day, and a bit of water does run out. The air is heated during the compression stage and is warm inside the tank, as it cools it causes condensation on the inside walls.

In your temps, it would be freezing inside the tank, not good. I would find a way to get it "downstairs", and insulate it for sound, and leave it there. Put a pan under it for drainage, and leave it there piping the air to where you need it.

No. Yes. No, and don't insulate it. If it's below freezing, crack the drain c*ck slightly and leave it that way to continuously drain the condensate. Crack it just enough to where you hear a slight hissing. You won't notice the slight air loss. Each time you use it check to see that it is hissing. If not, it has frozen and you need to thaw it to drain the water.

If thr air copressor is so important then put it in a heated area. If this is not possiable then build a closet around it and heat that area, Also an air drier is available to be installed on the air line. Now for your quote by george nethercut. If memory serves me right is he not the the person who said he would only serve two terms? Then after two terms said he was only jokeing? Who said politicans dont lie? Was it Nixon, Agnew, Hyde, Bush ( The daddy ) (remember read my LIPS no new taxes ) Bush ( The drunk ) (wepons of MASS destruction) Cheney, Reagan ( Contra deal ) Oh and yea Clinton ( I did not have sex with that woman) Guess they lie so much even they don"t know when they are Not being truthfull
